Some shots don't need a face to complete it. This is one of those images that is the poster child for medium format film. When you zoom in at 200 percent, the camera almost becomes the size of my 27 inch monitor and the letters on the lens are crisp and clear with a beautiful rendition of grain surrounding this crisp focus point. The Zeiss optics, the Ektar 120 film and the bright sunny day all contribute to the end product and make this image what it is. I strive for the day when more of my Hasselblad images turn out this stellar. After a few thousand more, I may eventually make it...

street shooting...
While we were waiting to be seated at Grimaldi's in West Village, Tyler and I used it as an opportunity to head out to the street and shoot a few photos. I am still getting comfortable with the Hasselblad, but I figure that the only way to learn it is to shoot it. I definitely have not mastered how to shoot handheld at the lower shutter speeds (down to 1/15 sec), like I am accustomed to with my Leica. This one was shot at 1/60 and it was sharp as a tack...
out on the street...
Spent some time walking around Knox Street in Dallas yesterday. Brought my Hasselblad with me for the first time. After several images like this one, it will not be the last time...
me and my polaroid...
As much as I post photos of myself in
reflections and such, I really don't like photos of me. I just think their are
more interesting people/things to photograph. Plus, being the photographer in
the family means that most of the time I am behind the camera. That is
definitely where I am most comfortable. Things changed when Tyler picked up
photography…
Now there are two of us constantly
taking pictures when we get together. As a photographer, it is rewarding when
you get a photo taken of yourself that you REALLY like. This would be one of
those photos. Thanks Tyler for the superb photograph...
christmas 2014 on film...
I continue to have the desire to keep film a part of my life. I have used instant film for the last three years, but I want to start using 35mm & 120mm film more often. My goal is to eventually use my Leica M6 camera to document all aspects of my life. I truly want to master this camera and a small selection of films. Ilford Delta 3200 is one of those films. It is very forgiving and super-flexible in all types of lighting and conditions.
This year, I wanted to make sure and bring film back to document Christmas morning and the days after. I didn't use it as much as I would like, but after developing every roll I become more confident in using the camera and film. See the images above for a small selection of what I was able to capture...
in the moment...
Got my scans back from Indie Film Lab today. Scrolling through them, this one definitely stuck out. It absolutely captures the essence of raising kids in America. You take the time to do the little things with your kids to enrich both of your lives. It only adds to this photo that baseball is absolutely a favorite pastime that extends through all generations. Nothing posed about this moment. All parties, including me behind the camera, are 100% in the moment and enjoying it thoroughly...
as they exist today...
Team Tyndell as they exist on the night of 18 June 2014
(Pyper, Maci, Tyler and Wilco).
Tomorrow, things will change...
The arrival of Allister is upon us...
some time outside...
We all got some one-on-one time out in the sun with Pyper this past Sunday. Figured it was a great day to spend together as we prepare for our new arrival this week...
tri-x test roll...
Here are a few of my favorites from last night and today. The first six photos were all shot in low light with shutter speeds of 1/15th or 1/30th. Not bad for my first roll of film through my Leica M6. This is also the first roll of film that I have developed since I was in high school. I would have to say that this camera is a dream to shoot with. I don't think that I have done it justice with these photos, but I plan on shooting the M6 regular enough to get to the point where I truly know the camera. The only way for the camera to become second nature is to shoot it often. That being said, I am already half way through my first roll of Portra 400. I plan on having it ready to send out to a lab by mid next week...
in action...
Met up with Tyler to assist with trying out the Fuji 4x5 Instant Film for an engagement shoot. Seemed like a waste not to pull out my Canon 6D and get some BTS photos of Tyler in action.
on the other side of the camera...
Spent a little time with Tyler this afternoon/evening scouting out a location for an upcoming photo shoot of his. Since he spends so much time shooting photos of others, I thought I would capture of few of him to remind him what it is like to be on the other side of the camera...
more halloween 2013...
Halloween has creeped upon us again... Pyper was ready and excited for it this year. Even though she was allergic to most of the candy that she was given, she still seemed to have a blast just getting to say "trick or treat" to total strangers. She definitely loved here costume and at one point even told her Dad that she needed to check his heart (see photo #2). At the end of the night, she got tired of the glasses, but she still was ready to pose for me under a street light. Between Tyler and I taking photos, the night will never be forgotten. I also posted some instant photos of Pyper here. I love these photos below, but there is nothing quite like an instant photo coming out of the camera ready to hold in your hand...
old glory...
Probably have overdone the flag photos now, but they are so rich and colorful that it is hard not to keep taking and posting them. I have one of Maci on my iPhone blog, I have the 8x10 Impossible color image that I took of Tyler on my instant blog and now this one that was taken with my Fuji x100s. This particular flag is displayed on the side of a business near downtown Greenville. I know that given time, it will become a victim of the elements. Like many things, I wanted to capture the photo before it changes or disappears. It is probably obvious, but that is the reason we take many of our photos. This one has now been captured in all of it's glory...
in the studio with Maci and Tyler...
Took quite a few pictures this past weekend. Makes for a great weekend! I guilted Maci and Tyler into coming over on Sunday after lunch to let me take a few studio shots of them. Mainly took Polaroids, that I will post later on my instant blog, but I took a few pictures with my trusted Olympus EP2. Really would like to upgrade to the OM-D, but I keep getting winners with this one. I only took six shots and three of them are below.
Tyler always seems to start the shoots off by really posing and making faces. He does this stuff and he knows that I will get the picture. The great thing is that these are usually the ones that I want to post/print. I really like this one because Maci was getting ready for the picture and of course she looks over and sees Tyler acting out. What a look, what a moment...
Here is a closer image where both of them have great expressions/smiles. Square format rules!
Lastly, two different edits of a posed full-body photo. The first one just has the minor adjustments to contrast/sharpening. For the second one I added the Aperture vintage preset. When I can't decide which one, I post them both...
